Too Many Rights?

Trump Supporters Claim That ‘Blacks’ And Other Minorities Have ‘Too Many Rights’

That sort of thinking sounds awfully familiar.  Could it be that I've heard it right here on Shmoozezone?

“I voted for him because I thought the blacks were getting on too much,” said Kevin Forester of Chattanooga, Tennessee. “I mean they’re everywhere. There was one in the White House, you see them all over ESPN. And you can’t move to a neighborhood to escape them,” he said.

These concerns that Black Americans have rights isn’t limited to Tennessee. Curtis Jennings of Little Rock eagerly voted for Trump because he feared that minorities had “too many rights” and “would outpace white men.”

"...for a lot of white Trump voters, the idea that they aren’t guaranteed a job just for being white is discrimination. "

Most Americans are not racist, nor so ignorant that they think this way.  But the number who do, make a difference in the political environment.  It's a troublesome infection on our national self-image, one that could get worse, or treated until it is no longer a problem.

Of COURSE civil rights are an issue mostly for blacks and other minorities.  They were the ones for whom it was necessary to enact civil rights laws, finally, a century after the war that freed blacks from slavery.  Passing those laws not only established legally their equal rights to the freedoms they should have had all along, but changed the map of politics completely.

As we know, laws do not eliminate the crimes they define.  When well enforced, they reduce them, but there are still violators, some caught and some not, and some will find ways to violate the intent of the laws while not technically being illegal.  For example, how many people get away with murder by claiming self-defense?  Lots of them, including police officers.

Civil rights for minorities will be an issue as long as people try to violate them.

Class in this country is about economics.  Yes, people of all colors, ethnicity, and religions SHOULD be able to fight side by side against the corporate capitalist control for their fair share of the wealth they produce.  To prevent that, Trumpists and Republicans in general have pushed prejudiced attitudes to divide the lower-income working class.  All Republicans from Nixon to today have used that strategy.  Trump has just gotten more blatant about it.

Black people do need to teach their children to be extremely careful around white police or other authorities, and to be skeptical of the intentions of white people they encounter.  They are aware of the reality, and want to protect their children from it.  Is that "racism", or just the equivalent of "look both ways before crossing the street"?

The pro-Trump racists are mostly the undereducated working class whites who are convinced their problems are somehow caused by blacks, Mexicans, and Muslims, not by the changing economy that they don't understand.  How many are they?  Enough to make the difference in a few states, which allowed the outmoded Electoral College system to give Trump the win.

Most of the Republican electorate, the corporate and wealthy, and those who buy their ideology, don't give a damn about race.  They're willing to use it to divide everyone else, but their interest lies elsewhere.

If you are enjoying the Trump Presidency and approve of his policies, there's no point in arguing about your illusions about the alternative that might have been.  You believed his side, so he's all yours.

Don't put words in my mouth.  By the way, I noticed you have been quiet about what we now know about Clinton.  I was right and you were wrong on Clinton.  However, I don't think you are big enough to admit it.

What is sad is that our government, both Democrats and Republicans, are corrupted as can be.  The American public have brought into a cult mentality where it concerns the parties and thus are just as responsible.  Bernie Sanders probably could have been the first Independent president, beating both Trump and Clinton but he decided to sell his soul.  I lost all respect for Bernie.

The only relevant thing we "now know" about Hillary Clinton is the same thing I knew all along:  she would have been a MUCH better President than what we ended up with-- SO much better than the comparison isn't even close.

So, unless you actually voted for her on Nov. 8 2016, I do not believe you were right.

No, she would have been a worst president.   She was a war hawk that should be prosecuted for war crimes in Libya.  The Clinton Foundation should be investigated for their fraud including the disappearing funds from Haiti.  I know, you champion the rights of Blacks but not the ones in Haiti that the Clintons stole from and are now having to shit in buckets because they don't have toilets.  Do you really want to try and defend Hillary Clinton?

I don't have to defend Hillary to the majority, who voted for her and probably would again if they could.  For those like you who spread absurd lies, there's no point.

No, they need to be more careful around Black police because the evidence is that Black police officers are more likely to shoot than White police officers.  See, you are buying into the bullshit.  Instead of listening to some regressive left talking head, go out and READ FOR YOURSELF!

I know that black people are also influenced by society to have some of the same negative ideas about themselves that the white majority have.  It is an especially sad effect.  Children can go through school without learning most of the contributions and achievements of black people in our history.  That is why there are efforts to teach black history, and to give black people a sense of pride in being who they are.  Self-confidence is an important factor, both for individual and group success.

Black police officers naturally take on some of the same attitudes and fears about black citizens that the white ones have, though they may not even be conscious of it.  So, yes, black children must be especially careful around ANY police.

That is an emotional burden that parents of black children, and the children themselves must bear, and too many of us don't comprehend, or even imagine, what it's like to feel that every single day of their lives.

Civil rights are for everyone.  They become an ISSUE when they are denied, or extra effort is needed to gain them.  Until minorities can correctly assume they will actually be able to enjoy their legal civil rights to the same degree the white majority can, the issue will be there.

Exactly, they become an issue when they are denied for ANYONE, including Whites that you seem to despise since you keep calling them names such as racists and Nazis and fascists when you have no proof of it.

Where did I say all whites, or even most, were racists?  I said the majority of Americans are not, but some obviously are.  Many of those will admit it.

Do you claim they don't exist, and that racism is not a problem in the US?

My apologies.  The alt-left did indeed pushed that all Whites were inherently racist even if they did not know it.  I am glad that you did not buy into that nonsense.

Yes, there are racist people in the US and I have stated that before.  However, these racist people are in ALL RACES.  You may have heard some saying that Blacks cannot be racists; they can and they are.  A good example of a Black racist group would be the Black Panthers; a very dangerous racist groups as they have called for the exterminations of Whites.  There are also dangerous White racist groups.  We should denounce all racists on all sides; a comment that Trump made that got backlash from the alt-left democrats.

Is there a large racist problems in the US?  No.  Most people simply don't care.  I can see that here where no one even bats an eye at a biracial couple; or at gay couples either.

On the issue of rights; they pertained to all.  I often see articles where civil rights are mentioned as if they only pertained to Blacks.  Everyone has civil rights including White people.  You often hear that it is going to be investigated to see if a Black person's civil rights were violated but you will rarely hear that applied to a White person.

Bobby Kennedy stated it best when he said it was not about race but class.  The problem is that they had Bobby Kennedy murdered so that the agenda could be pushed and part of that was to try and keep the races fighting with each other.  We had a Black professor recently spout off that he was teaching his children to be racists against Whites and that is sad.

First of all, you often see a lot of sensational headlines; especially from news medial that are far-left and anti Trump.  The majority of the people that voted for Trump are not racist.  In fact, a lot of Blacks and Hispanics voted for Trump because the Democratic Nation Convention colluded, and we have the chairperson of the DNC saying it is so; so there is no way you can say they didn't, to make sure that crooked Hillary got the nomination.  Of course a lot of us already knew about the Democratic primary manipulations before Donna ever said a word because social media was lit up over it.  I knew of the money "laundering"; just barely inside of the law, at the time it happened.

The far-left media and the far-right media are biased and they are publishing fake news.  They don't mind making up BS.  Of course anyone that is in the far-left cult will eat up the far-left media fake news and regurgitate it as often as possible.  I still remember Obama getting up and telling lies on national television for the sake of the far-left agenda.  We are still hearing the BS lies being repeated now.
