Butternut

I do have a few things producing in the garden.  I have some eggplants that are nearing ready and I picked a few cucumbers.  I don't seem to have any cantaloupes; I got the seeds mixed up with cukes so it looks like I will have plenty of cucumbers this year.  I had a few butternut squash to volunteer in the garden and they are further along than the ones I planted.

Best way to process them is to use one of these:

I keep getting flooded out.  Last flood put most of the garden on the ground.

I had pumpkins along the garden I had as a kid - & I even got some to grow fairly large. But nothing like you could get on a pumpkin farm or at the Grocery store.

I wonder what ever happened to the seeds that were in them?mail?url=http%3A%2F%2Fs9.tinypic.com%2F2

Nice looking squash. Do you use them for pumpkin pies?

You can eat them as a side dish or as a soup or even in pies.

I make a really cool deep-fried breaded ravioli with them. They are famous around here. Tossed in some cinnamon sugar. The kids always went nuts for them.

Oh, I have an idea; get some of those crescent rolls things and fill them with the prepared butternut and then drop them in the deep fryer.
