It's Dead

The desktop is dead.  It won't boot, too many bad sectors on the hard drive.  I am using the laptop and a tiny keyboard to type on which means lots of mistakes.  It isn't even ergonomic.  Not sure how much work I can get done on this thing.  I will have to get a new hard drive and then hope I can recover files.  Don't ever buy Seagate; this is the second new drive from Seagate that failed within weeks.

Seagate were leaders in the hard drive industry.  However, the Barracuda 7200.11 series are junk and that is what both of these drives that fail were.  I am not sure about this 400 Gig drive, it is also a Barracuda but a 7200.8 series.

OK, found the molex to sata connector, it was on my desk, buried under papers and such.  I keep saying I am going to clean the desk off one day.

I have the laptop connected to my monitor and keyboard and mouse so at least now I have a functional setup without having to use the flat laptop keyboard and mouse pad.  Now back to looking for that molex adapter.  I have come across an old 400 gig Seatgate that I want to read to see what is on it.  I have an external adapter that will allow me to hook the hard drive to the usb port but the standard power connector is molex; no problem once I find the adapter.  I took some stuff out to the shed so may have to venture out there.

I think that 400 gig drive might have a working Windows 7 installation; if so then I don't want to trash that.  If not, then I might can use it to the get the desktop back up until I can get a new drive for it.

OK, at least I have my keyboard back, I found a ps2 to usb adapter.  I was actually looking for a molex to stata power cable.  I had forgotten I had purchased the ps2 to usb adapters so I could connect a keyboard and mouse to the old xbox.  One also needed an adapter to go from the standard usb connector to the funky usb connector that MicroCrap put on the original xbox.  I don't know what I am going to do when this keyboard dies; I have not been able to find a replacement for it.

Somewhere around here there is a cordless mouse and keyboard that both work off the same transmitter. Really handy but the mouse is an older one so it EATS batteries!!
