Not looking good for the Canna Lilies

It is not looking good for the Canna Lilies.  We basically got flooded out this winter and things that can't sit in water rotted on me.  I think all of the butterfly ginger is gone and my canna lilies may all be gone as well.  The canna lilies have done well over the years and if you know, they can be like weeds as they spread.  I have given them away to family and friends because I just hate tossing things on the compose heap.  If I had known, I would have cover the ground with a tarp to shed the water.

I'm a little north of Vero, and same applies here regarding cannas.  One of our Master Gardeners loves them, and he lifts and stores them every year - and donates his excess to the MG's annual plant sale.

Oh I hope you haven't lost them all! They have to be lifted for the winter here. I really like them but don't want all the work of digging and re-planting.

These have been in the garden several years; started from just one plant that I purchased.  They spread like weeds.  I moved two to the fence last year; maybe they made it.

That is a shame. I have never grown butterfly ginger. How hardy is it?

Very hardy; and they spread quickly like any ginger.  I gave some to my sister last year that I needed out of the way.  Unfortunately, her ginger rotted as well.  Pretty white blossoms that resemble a butterfly and the smell is just wonderful.  I am going to miss not having them in the garden this year.  I had them in two separate areas and both are gone.  This is the first winter where it rained all the time.  I probably lost other things as well.

I have planted ginger roots from the grocery store a couple of times. I got some really pretty plants but have never got them to bloom.
