Fence Down!

I headed down to the little valley to do some work.  I opened the fence charger box and found the output down in the low range.  I had charged the battery about a week ago, maybe a bit more, so my first thought was that the fence was shorted out.  Yes, it was shorted out; major shorted out.  During the night a large dead tree; the top of which was already gone, had fallen across the fence taking it to the ground.    It was at my limit but I did manage to lift the dead tree off the fence.  If I had been unable to lift the tree then it would have meant returning to the house and getting the saw and cutting the tree into smaller sections.  Of course a companion to help with the lifting would have been nice.  Once the tree was off the fence I quickly got it back in place and all was good to go; the charger was putting out full voltage to the fence.  It was a good thing I did go down to the little valley; I almost changed my mind on doing so.  The fence was wide open and the deer would have had a feast.

I'm going to guess that maybe a deer pushed the old tree down on your fence to short it out. It wanted some of them green beans.

They do love green beans.  Before I redid the whole fence system, they pushed through the fence one year and mowed them to the ground along with the sweet potatoes.

I have been chasing them out of the back garden.  I looked out the little office window one day and one was lounging behind the back veggie garden, broad daylight, not a care to the world.  I went out screeching and sent it on its way.  Then two days later I look out and two deer are coming up around the orchard area.  Out I flew screeching as loud as I could and sent them packing.  I should just wait and shoot them dead but it is out of hunting season and I would have to drag the carcasses off.

Glad you were able to get the tree off the fence by yourself. I know how frustrating it is to try and do something all by yourself.

Whew!! Glad you discovered it in time. That would have been just the last straw to have deer eat up all your plants after all the problems you have had.
